Hi Everyone,
Wedding updates:
It has been quite a long time since Brian or I have posted to our website (since January!). A lot has been going on and we have been preparing for the wedding festivities since the day we booked the venue. We have yet to send the formal invitations; they should go out in early June. As indicated in the Save the Dates, we have booked a block of rooms at the Inn at Middletown under the “Porta-Smith” wedding. If you plan on spending the night, I suggest booking your room early, as the hotel gets busy over the summer. Our room block will only hold rooms through mid-June.
Many of the details still need to be worked out, but most things are coming together nicely. We have a lot of options up in the air, and are hoping to nail down many of them soon. All in all, Brian and I are totally excited and are enjoying the whole wedding planning process. Although I can’t wait for our big day, I am very glad we decided on an August date and not an early spring date, as I will take each day I can get to get all the planning done!
Brian and I have put together our registry, which was fun. As many of you know, we deliberate about many decisions and the items that we decided to add were no different. So, although it was like being a kid in a candy store and adding things to our “wish list” we also read volumes and volumes worth of reviews and spent a good amount of time thinking about what we needed, what we wanted, and what will be usable in our life right now. We are registered at:
Bed Bath and Beyond, Amazon.com, and the Pampered Chef
We realize traveling to CT is not a small feat for many of you, so we really appreciate all of your efforts to join us on our special day. We can’t wait to see all of you. (For planning purposes, the ceremony will begin at 3pm and the reception will end at 9:30pm.)
Other updates:
Brian has spent many hours re-configuring our backyard and has recently finished building the second raised bed for our vegetable garden. So far we have only planted our cold weather crops, but we have four healthy lettuce plants growing strong. We decided to plant peas this year, after hearing my mom talk about the snap peas she used to plant and harvest when Mel and I were young. Of the six pea plants, only one has popped its head through and will hopefully be a champion in producing fruit. We will have to wait and see…. Building the raised beds has disrupted the lawn and we now have to spend many hours sifting through our dirt and excavating multitudes of rocks. We have extracted more rocks from our tiny backyard than you can imagine. Please let us know if you need or want rocks; we have plenty.
The spring season means outdoor fun! One activity that Brian and I enjoy is biking. I was never a recreational biker but have come to really enjoy the sport. It is a great way to cover a good amount of distance and become more familiar with the towns and cities around where we live. We are looking forward to doing some biking and covering some ground this spring/summer. In addition to our regular biking, Brian and I purchased a tandem bicycle over the winter from a new neighbor and we cannot wait to begin cruising around town together on it! The only downside to biking is that Taylor cannot join in the fun. But spring has sprung for Taylor, too, and she has begun to wade in the ocean during our beach runs on the recent sunny, warm days.
Well, that’s enough for now. Have a great day!
Kate
